In fact, my entire career in IT was in some way linked to computer networking, over a 25-year period, and I thought I knew all about security. I was steeped in a world that defined security in terms of firewalls, VPNs, Network Access Control, and Intrusion Detection and Prevention. There were a lot of boxes, and a ton of complexity to work through. All that effort makes you feel like you must be secure, right?<\/p>\n

Then I became a Zscaler employee. Suddenly my world was turned upside down. Rather than starting with the network, connecting people, and then attempting to lock everything down, I began to see another perspective altogether. Assume everything is insecure, remove all notion of implicit trust, and connect only what is permitted and secure. It was a revelation.<\/p>\n

It was also the beginning of a journey. As anyone else who has made a similar transition, or started their cybersecurity journey will attest, there is a LOT to learn in this space. A lot of technology, and a mountain of new jargon. Fortunately, there are plentiful resources, no shortage of training courses and many helpful folks ready to share what they know, but here\u2019s the thing.
