A common problem with too much choice is getting overwhelmed in finding the one item that is most relevant to you. Even though we can provide filters and full text search, sometimes following a serendipitous path toward some topics common to your last topic (or others like it) can yield the item you are looking for. With that goal in mind, we are happy to announce the live implementation of “recommendations” to our Code Exchange on Cisco DevNet. Here’s how it works…

When you visit Cisco Code Exchange you can see some highlighted repositories on the search page. A quick search using a product name or technology can lead you to some promising results. Once you select an item, instead of going back to search again, or try another one on the list, a new faster route is to try one of the “recommended next” repositories on the lower right hand of the page. These recommendations are based on the creation of embeddings representing a set of dimensions that indicate how close one catalog entry is to another.

For example, imagine you are responsible for implementing AppDynamics monitoring of Websphere MQ. You might start by searching for that and finding a Code Exchange entry that helps you to tie into it. In the ‘Related cloud repos’ card on the middle right, you’ll now see a list of relevant suggestions for monitoring other typical enterprise areas like MySQL, ActiveMQ, or others. Any of these may be areas that you are also responsible for integrating. Thus, providing a natural next step for you to explore.

Visit Cisco Code Exchange and give it a try!

Every year, Cisco selects leaders who exemplify the passion, tenacity, and knowledge required to be a cybersecurity defender. We are delighted to announce the Cybersecurity Defender of 2024 for the EMEA region: Stuart Perkins, Operations Leader for the Cyber Prevents team at Vodafone.

From Networks to Cybersecurity

A graduate of London University, Stuart’s career began at the Royal Air Force as an Engineering Officer. After serving, Stuart moved to the private sector, where he specialized in managing different technologies and technical teams. At Vodafone, a leading telecommunications company headquartered in the United Kingdom, Stuart is responsible for the Network and Telco Platforms that provide protection on the perimeter of the Vodafone estate. Stuart leads a team of 100 employees across Europe and India and is the lead for Operational Best Practice across the Cyber Prevent team.

“You’re on the side of doing the right thing.”
– Stuart Perkins.

With a background in building and configuring networks and understanding and securing those networks, Stuart has been fascinated by exploring the huge amount of data available in cybersecurity. Finding out more about threat actors and what they’re doing through the multiple tools he uses, piques Stuart’s interest. However, what matters most to Stuart about cybersecurity is that “you’re on the side of doing the right thing, making a difference, and preventing people with malevolent intent from being successful,” he said.

The network never lies.

Stuart is dedicated to adding value and improving experiences for colleagues and customers who rely on Vodafone to conduct business securely. Stuart’s team manages to secure tens of thousands of devices internally and many thousand devices within their enterprise space. Given that Vodafone is thwarting tens to hundreds of millions of threats depending on the day, Stuart is energized by his collaboration with Cisco and being able to analyze data to get detailed insight into threat actors.

“Using the MITRE attack Framework, we’ve actually been able to map from Cisco’s intelligence what those various attacks are attempting to do and where they fit into the framework,” he said. Stuart finds this work “unique and groundbreaking” for both Vodafone and Cisco in that “we’re using the perimeter of our infrastructure as a sensor to understand what people are trying to do against us and what their objectives are and start to look at areas where we need to bolster the defenses.”

Given Stuart’s network background, what excites him about partnering with Cisco is Cisco’s history of network capability. In a recent call with Cisco colleagues, an idea that particularly struck Stuart was that the network never lies. “Cisco is giving me insight to see the traffic flows across our infrastructure. Using the MITRE mapping helps us quickly assess and act on any alerts, whilst our blocking actions are great, we know that some cyber attacks will be successful. Our mission is to protect customers, colleagues, and society from this type of criminal activity,” he said.

Stuart’s commitment to infrastructure security is reflected in Vodafone’s use of the MITRE ATT&CK framework and Cisco Security solutions. By leveraging these tools, Vodafone is able to block tens of millions of malicious attempts on a daily basis. This level of security effectiveness protects Vodafone’s systems and enhances the customer experience by ensuring that issues are dealt with promptly.

Empowering the next generation of cybersecurity defenders

Stuart’s passion for his work extends to empowering his team members to become the next generation of cybersecurity defenders. As there is a significant cohort of early-in-career contributors starting their careers at Vodafone, it’s crucial to Stuart that his employees have ample training opportunities and interesting things to work on in both network tooling and reporting. The team is also excited about an upcoming Cyber Range training with Cisco Talos’s Threat Intelligence team.

Something Stuart is proudest of is the transformation of his team becoming more proactive about their platforms and more curious about the information gleaned from alerts. This focus and collaboration have led to less time on calls because of the team’s due diligence.

The team of colleagues at Vodafone who have worked closely with Stuart are so proud of this achievement, they think it’s very well deserved. His mission focus and the experience he uses to coach others are so important to us.

Congratulations, Stuart! We all benefit from your contributions to the field.

If you’ve ever run a 5K race, you know that the last mile often determines the winner. It’s all about timing: You have to choose your moment to accelerate the pace, pull away from the runners around you, and cross the finish line first.

Selling cybersecurity solutions is like running a 5K. You and dozens of other sellers are vying for position to win deals in the lucrative (and highly competitive) small and medium business (SMB) market. But as a Cisco partner, you’ve got a distinct advantage. And right now is your moment to kick into high gear, because Cisco is setting you up to win—with a superior product and fantastic incentives that your competition can’t match.

Are you ready to do this? I’m going to show you how to win the SMB market with Cisco Secure Networking solutions like Meraki MX.

Recognize SMBs’ unique security challenges

SMBs need much more from their security solutions than what they’re typically getting. In 2024, being “small” doesn’t mean you get to fly under the radar: 43 percent of cyber attacks now target SMBs. No wonder that cybersecurity is now the number-one priority for SMB IT teams, according to a TechValidate survey. Organizations need an advanced solution to stop sophisticated threats.

But that’s not their only requirement. An ideal security solution needs to be:

Simple: Easy setup and intuitive operations are paramount, since SMB IT teams often have limited staff and resources.
Scalable: Fast-growing SMBs need a flexible solution that can expand with their needs.
Fast: Security can’t slow down network performance. SMBs need to keep office and remote workers productive to meet business goals.
Cost-effective: SMBs with limited budgets need to do more with less. They need a solution that provides a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over the long term.

The bar is so much higher now—and for the sellers pushing inferior security products, that reality is unwelcome news. But for Cisco partners like you, it’s something to embrace.

Lead with Meraki MX, a converged networking and security solution

With Cisco Secure Networking solutions like the cloud-delivered Meraki MX, you won’t just check every box—you’ll exceed customer expectations. Meraki integrates superior firewall security with the number-one SD-WAN networking solution. Let’s unpack why Meraki is the best-in-class converged solution with unmatched simplicity and performance:

Superior malware protection: Cisco Meraki MX blocks 98 percent of malware threats, according to a 2023 Miercom performance evaluation. That’s 25 percent better than the industry average, and 2x more effective than many standalone solutions.
Zero-touch deployment: Meraki MX is truly zero-touch, resulting in 30 percent faster firewall deployment.
Best network visibility: Meraki offers the best network visibility and recognizes approximately 6,000 applications—27 percent more than leading competitors.
Expandable platform: As your customers’ needs evolve and businesses grow, they can add more Meraki devices to create connected, intelligent workspaces—all managed from a single dashboard.
Award-winning on-prem option: Do your customers need an on-premises solution? Offer the Cisco Firepower 1010, SE Labs’ 2023 winner for best next-generation firewall.
SASE architecture, now for SMBs: Many SMB organizations can benefit from a secure access service edge (SASE) architecture, with Meraki SD-WAN as its foundation. SASE can streamline and integrate networking and security in the cloud, and connect remote workers to any application across any network, from anywhere.

Cisco is one of the largest cybersecurity companies with the most comprehensive portfolio of solutions to meet your customers’ needs. We’re also the global networking leader, and that’s why our converged Secure Networking solutions stand above the competition.

Make selling easier and more profitable with Cisco

Beyond its best-in-class status, Meraki offers other tremendous selling advantages, starting with higher profit margins, recurring revenue, and increased lifetime value. Did you know that Meraki boasts a 91 percent license renewal rate? Meraki creates happy SMB customers, 97 percent of whom agree that Cisco is a good solution for SMBs. Cisco Meraki also takes the friction out of your sales motions, with clear product pricing, comprehensive solutions, and world-class support.

Cisco is fully committed to helping partners like you to grow your business and boost profitability. We’re continually enhancing and streamlining our Cisco Partner Program, based on partner feedback. From high-quality sales and marketing resources to the flexible Cisco Enterprise Agreement, we make selling easier to give you an edge.

Ready, set, SELL with new offers and promotions

Now for the final boost to help you win: generous new offers, discounts, and incentives that push your deals to closed-won status. Learn what’s available to you, from the Secure your Future with Meraki MX and our Secure the Edge Firewall Promotion to drive new adoption and better profitability.

The SMB market is highly competitive, but right now the race is yours to win. With superior secure networking solutions and attractive incentives, Cisco gives you the power to accelerate in that last mile—and leave your competition behind.

Fresh from another impactful Cisco Live EMEA, the buzz around Artificial Intelligence (AI) is undeniable. AI stands as a new frontier for businesses, a beacon of innovation in our swiftly evolving landscape. On Partner Day, I addressed a packed room of our partners, delving into Cisco’s decade-long journey with AI. Cisco’s expertise goes beyond deploying AI solutions at scale; it extends to our innovative AI-driven portfolio. Our approach to powering, connecting, securing, and observing AI in all its forms empowers partners and customers to harness its transformative potential. Cisco’s substantial history positions us strategically, allowing us to play a pivotal role in the ever-evolving AI landscape.

Looking back to the future

In today’s rapidly evolving financial services landscape, technology plays a crucial role in enabling business outcomes. Cisco is at the forefront of these technological advancements. Cisco Catalyst Center stands as a testament to this commitment to innovation, particularly in the application of automation use cases.

What is Cisco Catalyst Center

With a customer-centric approach, Cisco has been instrumental in transforming financial institutions by helping them achieve key business outcomes. Core to any digital transformation is the ability to automate as much as possible through Cisco Catalyst Center’s automation capabilities that significantly enhance operational efficiency, security, and customer experience.

Cisco Catalyst Center, a software-driven, intent-based allows a systems administrator to apply business policies to the network, which Catalyst Center then translates into network behaviors. These policies are then monitored, maintained, and adjusted on an ongoing basis to achieve the desired end state. By automating these tasks, IT teams can focus on more strategic initiatives instead of being burdened by routine network management activities.

A Customer Success Story

One of my clients is a leading global bank based in the U.S. They were able to leverage Cisco Catalyst Center to address several critical challenges. Here are four ways it improved the bank’s performance:

Automating Network Operations: The bank’s expansive network required a significant amount of resources to manage. With Catalyst Center, they were able to automate many of these operations, drastically reducing the labor and time required for network management. This led to cost savings and reduced the likelihood of human error, improving the network’s efficiency and reliability.
Enhanced Security: Financial services is a prime target for cyber threats, and the bank needed a solution that could provide robust security. Catalyst Center integration with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) and its in-built security features allowed the bank to identify and mitigate threats quickly and effectively. This ensured the protection of sensitive customer data and maintained the bank’s reputation for security.
Superior Customer Experience: The bank was able to leverage the capabilities of Cisco Catalyst Center to enhance its customer experience. With a stable, secure, and efficient network, they could ensure their services were always available and performing optimally. This led to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Scalability: As a global bank with an ever-expanding customer base, the ability to scale was essential. Cisco Catalyst Center’s scalability allowed the bank to expand its network capabilities as needed, ensuring it could continue to provide a high-quality service as they grew.

Before deploying Catalyst Center, customers would be subject to periodic service degradations, due to routing failures. Post-deployment, Catalyst Center’s network traffic optimization reduced these issues by 25%, resulting in a more satisfying user experience. From a business standpoint that has meant fewer abandoned transactions and greater overall CSAT scores for the bank.

Success with Cisco Catalyst Center

This is just my example of how Cisco has empowered financial  institutions through the power of automation however there are other similar published customer success stories. With Cisco Catalyst Center, these organizations have a potent tool that not only simplifies IT operations but also delivers key business outcomes.

The success of Cisco Catalyst Center in financial services underscores the importance of automation in driving digital transformation. By also leveraging the power of predictive and adaptive AI/ML capabilities, financial institutions can improve their network’s reliability, security, and efficiency, ultimately supporting better business outcomes.

Predictive Analytics: Catalyst Center uses AI and ML to provide predictive analytics, enabling financial institutions to foresee network issues before they occur. This allows for proactive troubleshooting, reducing downtime and ensuring reliable network connectivity, which is crucial for financial operations.
Adaptability: Through intent-based networking, Catalyst Center can adapt to the changing needs of a financial institution. It can automatically optimize network performance based on the desired outcomes defined by the organization, like prioritizing certain types of traffic or automatically isolating potentially compromised devices.

Take the next steps

The velocity of change in the IT landscape is accelerating at an unprecedented rate. Traditional networking solutions are rapidly becoming obsolete, unable to keep pace with the demands of today’s digital world. The need for automation, observability, and self-healing capabilities is no longer optional; they are critical prerequisites for network success.

Ignoring this evolution is akin to admitting defeat. Businesses that fail to equip themselves with these advanced capabilities risk being unable to compete effectively, with their network becoming a bottleneck rather than a driver of growth. The time to act is now. Embrace the future of networking with Cisco Catalyst Center, and ensure your institution remains competitive in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

As a first-generation college student and a woman of color, navigating my educational journey was a path I faced alone. Growing up with a single, hardworking mother, I learned the value of self-reliance and determination early on. Her unwavering support instilled in me a tenacity to always seek betterment and embrace challenges.

While majoring in marketing and management at the University of Houston, scholarships became my gateway to education. Yet, it wasn’t just about securing financial aid but actively shaping my path to get the right opportunity. I leveraged support from career advisors and was not afraid to ask questions. From the outset, I immersed myself in various organizations and networks, recognizing the power of connections for internships and career prospects. Navigating these experiences, I knew I wanted to help other students in their career journeys.

My career really took root when I landed an internship at a major tech company. This experience not only broadened my human resource management expertise but also ignited my passion for nurturing those early careers. Volunteering in their employee resource group opened my eyes to the impact I could make in fostering diversity in the workplace, and leading a cohort of interns solidified my desire to help those early in their careers.

Fast forward to today, I’m proud to be part of Cisco as a University Engagement Manager dedicated to enhancing diversity. My role allows me to collaborate with Hispanic-serving institutions, historically Black colleges and universities, and diverse student organizations. Engaging with these communities through info sessions, career fairs, and conferences empowers me to be a voice for inclusivity. This work holds a special place in my heart because I’m both a minority and a first-generation corporate employee, and I understand the journey students may be walking through, and can help guide their way so they are not alone.

Beyond my 9-to-5, I am also on the leadership board for Conexion, Cisco’s Hispanic/Latinx employee resource group, which we call Inclusive Communities, as the Marketing Lead. It provides me opportunities to connect with people with a similar background as me and a place where I can find community. Being part of the leadership board, I help build that community and welcome allies eager to learn and support us. Cisco has 29 Inclusive Communities, so you can easily find one or more you identify with or want to be an ally to. Ultimately, these groups provide encouragement, leadership skills, and opportunities to make an impact and learn to be informed allies to various cultures, people, and perspectives.

Cisco’s culture is not just uplifting but empowering. It’s a place where my voice matters, where I feel valued and embraced. Here, I can actively shape the company’s hiring pipeline, bring in diverse talent, and contribute to our purpose of powering an inclusive future for all. I know the impact your first career opportunity can have on your life, and every success story from a student I’ve helped connect with the chance to have that experience at Cisco reaffirms my passion. Working for a company committed to building an inclusive future is more than a job — it’s a fulfilling journey. Cisco isn’t just a workplace; it’s a community where I belong, where I’m proud to help others find their footing and contribute to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive tomorrow.

Be you, with us. Find your opportunity now.

Apple is the marquee example of a great company that disrupts itself and others in the market. Two weeks ago marked the 40th anniversary of the Mac. Consider how the launch of the original Mac not only reinvented how we work with computers, but changed how software was written. Now, with the launch of Apple Vision Pro, Apple is on the brink of reinventing personal electronics yet again, marking the next frontier of collaboration with spatial computing.

From the moment I first met with Apple to talk about the Vision Pro and see it firsthand, I was impressed by its potential to disrupt how we work. It is only natural that the next step in our decade-long partnership is bringing Webex to this breakthrough device.

Webex on Apple Vision Pro: A Singular, Unique Experience

Apple and Cisco have always shared an obsession of putting user experience in terms of great product design at the center of everything we do, and this extension to our partnership is no different. Today we announced Webex for Apple Vision Pro. This marks another step in our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible experiences for customers on Apple devices and offer the utmost flexibility in when, where and how people work.

At Cisco, we relentlessly pursue design excellence without exception. It is a sign of respect and a reason so many of our customers continue to invest in our products. Once you experience Webex on Apple Vision Pro, you will see this commitment come through once again. I am incredibly proud of our team. To say that design really matters to them is an understatement.

Companies will continue to figure out how to make hybrid work work. As they do, they will undoubtably have use cases which lend themselves to spatial computing. For example, manufacturing, retail, and healthcare all have incredible spatial computing use cases (some obvious, some less so) that will be perfectly met by Apple Vision Pro. I’m certain most industries will leverage this device to improve productivity, efficacy, and the worker experience.

Bringing Webex to Apple Vision Pro marks another step forward in providing workers with flexibility and what we refer to as distance zero — delivering the feeling of physically being in a meeting even when you’re not, eliminating the impact of distance.
